Keanu Charles Reeves was born on September 2, 1964 in Beirut, Lebanon, to Samuel Nowlin (half-Hawaiian, half-Chinese) and Patricia Reeves (English). They moved to Australia where his sister was born a year later and in 1966.

Patricia and Samuel divorced when Keanu was a toddler and went there seperate ways. Samuel moved to Hawaii and Patricia moved to New York with the 2 kids. In New York, Patricia met and married director Paul Aaron. They moved to Toronto, and took up Canadian citizenship (which Keanu still retains), but split up less than a year later. Patricia switched partners almost as often as she moved. Her next partner would be the rock-and-roll promoter Robert Miller. With whom Patricia had Keanu's second (half) sister Karina in 1976 and her fourth was Jack Bond, a hair salon owner, whom she divorced in 1994.

Keanu's last visit to his true father Samuel was at the age of thirteen on Hawaii. In 1994 Samuel had to face a ten-year prison sentence for cocaine possession. He was paroled in mid-1996.

Keanu described himself as a "middle-class white boy. A bourgeois, middle-class white boy with an absent father, a strong-willed mother, and two beautiful younger sisters." Keanu attended Jesse Ketchum Public School in Toronto from kindergarten through the eighth grade, and attended four high schools (including De La Salle College and the Toronto School for the Performing Arts) before dropping out completely at age 17. At a young age, Keanu had his mind set on hockey and theater. He would mix the two by reciting Shakespeare while tending goal during a hockey game. He started acting in Toronto during High School, and began landing roles in plays and commercials.

Keanu took on lots of different jobs, including sharpening skates , landscaping, and making pasta. Then he did some stage work and some bit parts on TV. His first film was a smalll part Dream To Believe in Canada but it was the 1986 TV movie Under the Influence that earned him his SAG union card. Keanu's first big feature film debut in a US film was in Young Blood in which he had a small part.

Keanu hit the road for Hollywood in 1986 with $3,000, his old Volvo, and his stepfather Paul Aaron's address.

Keanu made with one of his first acting jobs a sensation in Toronto with his role in the homoerotic play "Wolfboy" (1984); he also acted in several Canadian teleplays. When Rob Lowe came to town to film "Youngblood" (1986), Keanu could combine his first loves: hockey and drama.

Keanu took the big step to leave Canada behind and meet up with his stepfather Paul Aaron, the producer, in 1986. A few name changes followed as "Keanu" was considered too exotic by his new manager. They settled on K.C. Reeves, but it was short-lived. So they left it Keanu Reeves.

Keanu soon landed River's Edge, arguably one of his best roles ever. Many more feature films and television appearances would follow. His parts continued to grow, and then he started attracting the eye of more mainstream directors. He landed films like Dangerous Liaisons, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Much Ado About Nothing, and Little Buddha. But it was 1994's Speed that really made everyone stand up and notice.

Perhaps not so much for Keanu's acting, but the fact that this was his first mega-hit, grossing nearly $300 million at the box office (world-wide). Keanu 's acting became big business in the USA.

Keanu's love for music also started at an early age, however, he didn't begin playing the bass until he was twenty-three. Self taught, except for one lesson, he would spend hours a day picking away at the four-stringed bass. Meeting Rob in 1991 lead to his first band experience jamming in his garage, and eventually playing some live shows, then on to what we all know today.
